How bushfire shutters protect a home

A bushfire rarely reaches a house as a wall of flame first. What arrives ahead of the front is ember attack and intense radiant heat, and that is what breaks windows. Once glass fails, embers blow inside and ignite curtains, carpet and furnishings, and the home is lost from the inside out. A BAL-rated bushfire shutter closes over the glass and takes that punishment on the outside: it blocks embers, resists the radiant heat, and keeps the window intact through the worst of it. Because glazing is the most common failure point, shielding it is one of the highest-value things an exposed home can do.

BAL-rated shutters cost more than standard ones because of the certified materials and build.
